Every story has to start somewhere, and ours begins in the summer of 1956, when Grandpa Haralambos opens the first tavern at Perissa Beach right at the docks of the fishermen’s boats, for the local fishermen to rest and dine. In 1984, his son Savvas returns to Santorini after years at sea, and reintroduces the tavern at the same spot and a new fishing caique under the name “Popeye”. Years go by and the restaurant moves to the beach of Perivolos in 1991. Now our story reaches the present, where the catch of the day still arrives on the caique – a new one called “Agios Spyridon” – and the family’s third-generation, chef and oenologist Spyros, and Popi, welcome you to the restaurant along with their experienced team. Where did the restaurant Savvas Popeye get its name? From the owner’s first name and the famous Popeye comic book that Spyros read as a young boy and the family’s first fishing caique that was also named Popeye.
